Poor ol’ Angel di Maria.
The Argentine is about as popular around Old Trafford as a Steven Gerrard mural.
Di Maria has failed to live up to his €80 million price tag since arriving from Real Madrid last summer, finding the net just four times in his 21 appearances for United.
But moneybags Paris St-Germain are ready to end his Manchester nightmare by making a bid for the 27-year-old when the transfer window opens in the summer. And not just any bid, but a ‘here’s all the money you spend on him in the first place’ bid. (Daily Mirror)
By way of replacement, Louis van Gaal is looking at Dutch winger Memphis Depay who is one of the hottest properties in European football at the minute.
The PSV Eindhoven player is enjoying the form of his life in the Eredivisie with 23 goals this season and LVG knows him well from their time together with the Netherlands squad.
Depay would cost just a fraction of the money that United hope to recoup from the sale of Di Maria and is seen as a gamechanger not unlike Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben. (Telegraph)
Business is also being done on the blue side of Manchester and it looks like left back Aleksandar Kolarov is going back from whence he came after revealing a desire to return to Serie A.
Kolarov made the switch from Lazio to the Manchester City back in 2010 but has been something of an inconsistent starter under Manuel Pellegrini this term, having only been in the starting line-up eleven times in the Premier League in this campaign.
The Serbia international has admitted that the work of fellow countryman and Sampdoria manager Sinisa Mihajlovic has impressed him.
“I’d like to return to Italy, but it’s difficult,” said Kolarov. “I’m happy for Sinisa Mihajlovic; he’s doing very well, as are Lazio.” (Daily Express)
Liverpool fans who still have jerseys with Suarez on the back were almost in luck when Brendan Rodgers expressed an interest in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez.
But that deal has gotten the kibosh by the agent of the Spaniard, who was also being monitored by Arsenal, who insists that Inter is the most likely destination for the 28-year-old. (Telegraph)
One Atletico midfielder who looks certain to be making a move to the Premier League is the highly sought after Koke.
Koke’s signature looked to be down to a tug-of-war between Chelsea and Barcelona but it looks as though, which is often the case, Jose Mourinho has gotten his way.
The 23-year-old is seen as the stand out player in Diego Simeone’s side and only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have more assists than the Spaniard all season.
A bid of around €60 million is currently being prepared by the Blues and, with Cesc Fabregas already at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea could have one of the world’s strongest midfields for the start of the 2016 season. (Metro)
