Transfer Talk: Manchester United hero linked with return to Old Trafford

And it is bittersweet news for Arsenal

Ben Kiely

A five-time Premier League winning defender could be on his way back to Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United could be looking to make a deal that would see Nemanja Vidic return, according to the Daily Star. The four-time PFA Team of the Year defender has struggled to break into the starting XI at Inter Milan and is reportedly frustrated at the lack of match time he is getting in Serie A.

The Serbian defender has only made 15 appearances for the Nerazzurri since making the move from Manchester.

His agent, Silvano Martina, has given those teams interested in Vidic some hope via some vague quotes that suggest Vidic might be looking to leave his current club.

Inter are a great club, and any player would be happy to wear the Nerazzurri shirt.

Will he be at Inter next season? I’m not a magician, I can’t see the future.

A plethora of Europe’s top clubs are eyeing up a potential transfer for the 33-year-old since he has found himself out of favour at Milan. However, perhaps a return to Manchester United, the club where he made his name, would be his preferred move.

Today’s transfer gossip is a bit of a mixed bag for Arsenal fans. Vidic’s Inter club-mate Lukas Podolski hinted that he might be intending to stay at Arsenal upon his inevitable return from Italy.

The much-maligned striker opened up about his tough time trying to find form in Serie A during an in-depth interview with the Guardian. He also admitted he had unfinished business with Arsenal.

My chapter with Arsenal is not closed. I still have a year left on my contract [there] and always got on really well with the guys and the fans.

The good news for the Gunners is that they’re finally on course to sign Sami Khedira. Well, the Metro seem to think as much anyway.

It was though that the German World Cup star was getting ready to snub the North London club in favour of joining Bundesliga outfit Schalke.

However, after Real Madrid barely got past Schalke in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, the 27-year-old revealed that the German club snapping him up is not a dead cert.

When asked if he was considering a move to the team Madrid eliminated, Khedira gave very ambiguous response.

Am I open to Schalke?

I am open to many teams.

Read into that whatever way you wish.

Staying in London, Tottenham are keeping a close eye on Sassuolo sharpshooter Simone Zaza, so the Daily Mirror reports.

Zaza’s agent Christian Maifredi is scheduled to travel to London to try and negotiate a deal with Spurs but the deal could be thwarted by Juventus. The Serie A giants have first option to buy him after seling him to Sassuolo two years ago.

The 23-year-old has scored eight goals in Serie A this season, and found the net 18 times in 30 starts for Ascoli Picchio in Serie B two years ago before moving to the Italian top flight.
