The home-grown quota might be forcing Manchester City to splash the cash on some English players this summer
Manchester City are looking to snap up a pair of big name English-born Premier League midfielders, according to the Daily Star.
The Premier League champions are reportedly concerned about their quota of home-produced players and see Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and Ross Barkley of Everton as the perfect players to bring in to address that.
Wilshere might be difficult to lure away from the Emirates though. He is under contract at the club until 2018 and there are rumours circulating that the Gunners are looking to extend his current deal.
Meanwhile, City would need to pay top dollar for Everton playmaker Ross Barkley. The Toffees have apparently set an asking price of £50million for the youngster.
The Mirror are reporting that Manchester United are looking to land highly-touted Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
The 21-year-old wonderkid is reportedly unhappy with his failure to hold down a regular first team spot in Los Blancos and could be looking for a transfer away to get more playing time.
United are supposedly going to offer £30million for the French international but they might have to compete for his signature with league rivals Chelsea. Jose Mourinho is a massive fan of the hot prospect and could bring him in to provide even more options in the Blues defence.
Arsenal are reportedly lining up a new bid for Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic at the end of the season. so Metro are claiming.
The Croatian was heavily linked with a move to the emirates during the January transfer window but it never materialised. Atletico weren’t willing to part with their towering striker on that occasion, but it is understood that they’re willing to let him leave this summer, following a dispute with manager Diego Simeone.
Mandzukic is in stellar form in La Liga this season, finding the net 20 times in 32 games. It is understood that Madrid have set a price tag of £16million for Mandzukic.
Tottenham are eyeing up Marseille forward Andre Ayew, the Daily Star reports.
The Ghanian international’s deal at the Ligue 1 side is set to run out in the summer and apparently contract negotiations have broken down between the club and the player.
Ayew has spent his entire career at Marseille and was perpetually linked with a move to Spurs’ bitter city rivals Arsenal.
