David De Gea is going nowhere.
Reports are suggesting that the Manchester United goalkeeper has told Real Madrid to forget about signing him before their transfer ban is put in place.
The Spanish giants were hit with a two-window ban on signing players which is set to be enforced in the summer but there was mounting speculation that club president Florentino Perez was ready to meet De Gea’s £45m buyout clause to get him in this window.
However, The Star are reporting that De Gea has told Madrid he isn’t interested in leaving Old Trafford this month and, if Madrid’s punishment is upheld, he won’t be able to sign for them until the summer of 2017.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are starting to make their own moves.
After Brendan Rodgers revealed last night that Joe Allen wasn’t the only Swansea player he tried to bring to Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is on the Welsh train too.
The Reds manager is trying to hijack Sunderland’s bid for Andre Ayew and bring the Swansea wide man to Liverpool. The 26-year-old Ghana attacker has impressed since joining the Swans but has been linked with a move away despite only joining the club in the summer.
Saido Berahino has a big decision to make as he’s being chased by champions Chelsea… and Newcastle United. The West Brom forward has caused Tony Pulis no shortage of headaches and seemed to be angling for another transfer request before Janaury when the Baggies’ manager dropped him for “how he’s behaved.” Big decision though, Newcastle or Chelsea. What is he waiting for? Get in the car and drive to the north east. Unless he really fancies sitting behind Costa, Remy and Falcao. (London Evening Standard and Daily Express)
It’s not all good news for Newcastle though who are also being linked with Andros Townsend. Think that’s bad enough? Well, it’s being reported that Spurs are demanding £14m (of real money) for the winger. (The Guardian)
There are potential knock-on effects some of the transfers too.
Scott Sinclair could be prized away from the Villa bench to go play for a better team in Swansea. If Ayew goes to Liverpool, that is. (Daily Mirror)
Manchester United are also keeping close tabs on Kasper Schmeichel who’s reportedly being lined up as David De Gea’s replacement, if he leaves. (The Sun)
Ruel Fox is being lined up to replace Andros Townsend because he’d probably be more useful to Spurs. (SportsJOE)
