Some rather big, and rather unusual, moves in today’s papers
There may be fewer days in the year thinner for football rumours than the first Saturday after the end of a transfer window. With lots and lots and lots of actual sport on today, and with no moves due for months, today ranks up there with one of the slowest days of the year for gossip.
But we have signed up to bring you all the titbits we can find and by jove we won’t let you down.
Manchester United lead the way today, and the Express reckon that Dani Alves fancies a move to Old Trafford as Barcelona drag their feet over offering the Brazilian a new contract. At 31, the flying full back may be entering the second stage of his career but we reckon most United fans would welcome him.
What they would not welcome is Angel di Maria leaving, but that is what the Star say. They suggest that PSG are going to flog Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi to finance a move for the Argentinian. The striking duo are reported to interest Arsenal and Manchester United but they will need to sell both for a combined £60m so they can make a bid for Di Maria.
Chelsea are the only other team getting a mention today, and the BBC say that a Flemish paper (yes, that is the sound of a barrel being scraped) says that Chelsea may try and pull a Matic and buy a former player back.
Kevin de Bruyne has been tearing it up at Wolfsburg and Chelsea fancy re-signing the 23-year-old.
That’s your lot folks…
