Manchester United’s problems at the minute seem to run deep. From a lack of pace, to tactical disorganisation to prosaic passing and rumoured discontent behind the scenes it seems that Louis van Gaal has a lot of work to do.
But none of this appears to have stopped United lining up players to buy with the money they recoup from selling Angel di Maria for next season and the presence of West Brom striker Saido Berahino in the stand for Monday’s FA Cup tie with Arsenal is enough for the Daily Mail to suggest that the England Under 21 international could well be at Old Trafford next season.
Of course the drawback of having Berahino in the stand for a game is that he will also have seen United play and may decide that his future is best served elsewhere. Though it’s still hard to believe that any young player would turn down the opportunity to look confused by Van Gaal’s tactics at a club as big as United.
Javier Hernandez has had no real opportunity to not understand properly what Van Gaal wants him to do. He’s been on loan at Real Madrid this season, and while that hasn’t been a roaring success it seems there are still plenty of clubs interested in the Mexican. Or two at least. Namely Southampton and West Ham. (Mirror)
Elsewhere Roberto Mancini is pulling out all the stops in a bid to bring Yaya Toure to Inter Milan next season. He’s got a massive Spongebob Squarepants birthday cake lined up, a bouncy castle, balloons, the works. And if that fails he’ll throw a load of cash under the Manchester City’s midfielder’s nose. At least that’s what Gazzetta reckon.
James Milner could be taking his solid but unspectacular play overseas at the end of the season. The Man City man is holding talks with AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma and two clubs in Spain according to the Guardian.
Glen Johnson is another English player who could be struggling to learn a new language as the Liverpool full back admits that he has no talks over a new deal at Anfield and is keen on a move abroad. (Liverpool Echo).
