Transfer news – Hummels, Berahino, Coentrao and Austin

Nine days until the shops opens...

Manchester United hardly need any more encouragement to go hard after Mats Hummels next month, but the German looks to be doing his best to attract the attention of his many suitors.

The World Cup-winning defender labelled Borussia Dortmund’s form ‘pathetic’ after yet another defeat, a 2-1 loss to Werder Bremen, left them stuck in the Bundesliga relegation zone. Hummels would likely cost upwards of £50million and could be the subject of a bidding war between Europe’s top clubs. (Mirror)

Chelsea FC v Sporting Clube de Portugal - UEFA Champions League

Chelsea flop Mohamed Salah’s Stamford Bridge career could be over before it has really begun with news of interest from Spartak Moscow. Jose Mourinho beat off interest from Liverpool to sign the Egypt winger for £11million a year ago, but Salah has failed to make an impression at his new club. Spartak boss Murat Yakin, who worked with Salah at former club Basel, said: ‘I’ll do whatever it takes to get Salah in the team, even if I have to beg for it.’ (Daily Star)

Arsenal and Liverpool are to battle it out with United for Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao, although colour SportsJOE sceptical of the Reds’ willingness to fork out the reported £25million fee for the Portuguese defender just months after spending seven figures on Alberto Moreno. (Express)

Real Madrid CF v Club Atletico de Madrid - La Liga

The Gunners would have to be considered front-runners should Moussa Sissoko ever move on from Newcastle. The 27-year-old midfielder would fill a long-held need in Arsene Wenger’s side and has expressed his love for Arsenal. He said: ‘Arsenal were my favourite club when I was young. My goal is to play at the best clubs, playing the Champions League, win trophies, but today I am a Magpie and I am very happy.’ (Express)

Harry Redknapp has admitted QPR ‘may as well give up’ if they allow Charlie Austin to leave the club. The Premier League’s top English goalscorer with 11, Austin has just 18 months left on his contract and could be a much-discussed option in the January window. (Daily Star)

Queens Park Rangers v West Bromwich Albion - Premier League

Tottenham have abandoned their plans to sign injured Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez and have instead turned their attentions towards West Brom forward Saido Berahino, although they will have to pay a whopping £25million to prise the England Under-21 star away from The Hawthorns (Daily Mail)
