We don’t want to hear about transfers in daylight. It’s just less fun!
There’s nothing better than gulping down your pre-bed cuppa as a sleepy Jim White tells you where Yossi Benayoun is off to next.
Transfer deadline day has been on a sharp decline ever since January’s decision by Sky Sports News to ban fans from the broadcasts.
And now the enjoyment factor is hitting critical levels as the Premier League have moved the deadline of the window closure forward to 6 PM, starting this summer.
The midnight finish had an element of mania about it as chairmen and managers burned the midnight oil in an attempt to force through moves while the exhausted Sky Sports News presenters struggled to contain the excitement of fans who had committed their entire evening to learn about what deals their respective clubs were working on.
The rationale behind the decision comes with the fact that teams must register their Champions League squads before midnight so, by moving the closure ahead by six hours, it means that Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United have plenty of time to submit any last-minute signings.

It makes sense but transfer deadline day has nothing to do with sense. It’s about the panic buys, the terrible banter between presenters and Jim White essentially scrolling down on his iPhone for an entire work shift.
What next? Will they ban yellow ties? Harry Redknapp? Sex toys??? The world’s gone mad.
