The comeback started last night and continues this morning.
Manchester United are optimistic about getting Luke Shaw back on the field by the end of this season.
The 20-year-old left-back suffered a horrific double leg fracture after he was robustly challenged by PSV defender Hector Moreno in his side’s 2-1 Champions League loss.
United boss Louis van Gaal revealed the club are hopeful of bringing Shaw back to Manchester with them but, if medics suggests otherwise, it may be Thursday before he departs Holland.
This morning, United confirmed that Shaw had surgery in Eindhoven and would remain there until cleared to fly home.
Asked about the time-frame for Shaw to return, van Gaal commented, ‘When you have a double [leg] fracture, it is usually four to six months. It depends on how he develops.
‘So, he don’t play in the group stage any more, I think.
‘I hope [he plays again this season], yes.’

Van Gaal also gave details on his first contact with Shaw in the United dressing room, at half-time.
‘It’s awful.
‘The boy comes at 18 to Manchester, has a very difficult season and next season plays fantastic and then this happens.
‘I’m not a doctor, so I cannot say, but when you have a double fracture it is [out] for six months to see how it develops. When he came into the dressing room, he had an oxygen mask and was crying.’
Van Gaal strongly suggested Hector Moreno should have conceded a penalty for the tackle but refused to condemn the Mexican, who previously played for him at AZ Alkmaar.
‘If I say it is a penalty and a red card I am a bad loser, every word is interpreted in the wrong way.
‘But it was a very bad tackle with two legs.’
