This could be bad news for the boys in green.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has had his say on Jack Grealish’s international future, and it doesn’t make good reading for fans of the Irish national team.

Ahead of yesterday’s 2-0 win over West Brom in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Sherwood said: ‘I think he [Grealish] might play for England, but he’s got to play for Villa first’.

Grealish is from Birmingham, but qualifies for Ireland through his Dublin born father, and has featured for the Irish national teams at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 levels.

However, his long-term international future remains unclear. The 19 year old last played for the Under-21s last year, before being asked to be excluded from squads for the immediate future to concentrate on playing for Villa.

Grealish was sent-off in yesterday’s game, but has had more playing time with Villa since Sherwood took charge last month.
