After a summer of talk and excitement and what-might-be, it came to Deadline Day and Victor Moses going on loan to West Ham stole the show.
January is going to be fun. But, please, don’t get your hopes up.
Remember the summer of 2015 and heed its warning.
No Gundogan.
No Reus.
No Bale, Neymar, Varane and none of the rest of the names that were linked with moves to the Premier League since the end of May.
The big intra-Premier League transfers never even materialised.
Deadline Day arrived and, once again, we are flat. And, once again, we were surprised.
Some of the names that never made the moves they threatened to would’ve made superb teams though. Here are the main characters from a summer of talk and no action. Enjoy this transfer window with caution.
All out attack with the first line-up.
So much so that Dani Alves has been shifted to the left flank.
Pogba and Gotze would be a wet dream of a holding midfield pair for Arsene Wenger whilst the front four is just ridiculous. And all were linked with moves to United at some stage.
Team B is just as tasty looking but it would require mammoth work rate from Reus and Aubameyang to get up and down the flanks.
They’ll earn their keep on this 11.
And Team C? Well, there was just too many left over to choose from.
Here’s to January.
