Three Irish players make Mark Lawrenson’s all-time XI of former team mates

Solid outfit

This is hard to argue with.

Mark Lawrenson has put together a pretty strong line-up of former team mates that’s as equally rigid as it is fluid.

Three Irish players populate a team littered with seven Liverpool legends and the other one is a Preston gem… and a World Cup winner – Bobby Charlton.

Lawro opted for Paul McGrath in defence but did bemoan having to leave compatriots like David O’Leary, Kevin Moran, and Mick McCarthy out of the team sheet as he put his side together on Sky Sports’ Fantasy Football Club.

At the heart of midfield, he has two Irish men controlling the game with Liam Brady given a licence to roam next to Johnny Giles and an anchor in Graeme Souness.

Up top, he has a couple of decent former Liverpool strikers.

It’s a strong line-up which Lawro reckons would win at the three things: football, fighting, and drinking.
