It now seems only a matter of time before Damien Duff appears in a Shamrock Rovers jersey.
Despite Hoops boss Pat Fenlon denying that his club was on the verge of tying up the Irish midfielder, Duff should be playing at Tallaght Stadium sooner rather than later/never.
Several media outlets are reporting that Duff will sign for Rovers in the coming days, with the Irish Daily Mail running a great story about how the footballer will distribute his wages.
Duff will not receive a regular salary at the SSE Airtricity League club, rather the club and sponsors will contribute approximately €1,000 a week to a charity of his choosing.
The 36-year-old is an ambassador for Heart Children Ireland but it is not yet clear if that is the charity that stands to benefit. Duff’s son, Woody, was born with a congenital heart defect so HCI is a charity he is passionate in supporting.
At Tallaght Stadium, on Monday, Fenlon said, ‘I don’t have any money to spend, that’s for certain. So if anything happens, well and good.’
