Thomas Tuchel has become the latest managerial casualty after he was sacked from his role as Chelsea boss on Wednesday.

Tuchel was dismissed less than 24 hours after taking charge of his 100th game for the Blues – a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb – with the club opting to part ways with the man who had guided them to a second Champions League title.

Despite a slow start to the season, performances haven’t been the only factor behind new owner Todd Boehly’s decision to sack the German, with a number of behind-the-scenes issues playing a role.

The Telegraph state that Boehly and his partners were left concerned by the 49-year-old’s behaviour away from the limelight and ultimately decided that Tuchel was not the man to lead Chelsea into their new era.

Boehly and his co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali had initially planned to keep Tuchel for the long haul but the handling of transfers in particular caused tensions amongst the parties.

As a manager who usually likes to operate on his own, Tuchel was met with several obstacles. A WhatsApp group was set up to improve communications and transfer targets between them both.

The signing of Cristiano Ronaldo caused a huge difference in opinion. Boehly was extremely keen on signing the 37-year-old but Tuchel had other ideas.

Players also looked to have been losing faith in the manager. A series of lacklustre displays also haven’t helped his cause either, with the atmosphere at the training ground described as tense and a number of players feeling like they had been poorly treated.

Chelsea are wasting no time in trying to find a new appointment and are reportedly set to make an approach for Graham Potter, who is their number one candidate, with Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane also linked with the role.
