Thomas Tuchel ‘interested’ in replacing Frank Lampard at Chelsea

Simon Lloyd

Tuchel is planning a swift return to the world of football management.

Thomas Tuchel hasn’t even officially been sacked yet by Paris Saint-Germain, but is already being linked with another job. Frank Lampard, who we didn’t even know was in any serious bother at Chelsea, is the man whose job he reportedly quite fancies taking.

Honestly football, just calm down a bit, yeah? It’s hard enough just knowing what day it is at this time of year without you thrusting another managerial merry-go-round upon us just to add to the confusion. None of us need this. Absolutely none of us.

It was widely reported that Tuchel was given the boot by PSG on Christmas Eve (Joyeux Noël, Thomas!), with Mauricio Pochettino expected to replace him. Official confirmation is expected any time, but reports from Germany now claim that a settlement reached between the former Dortmund boss and the Champions League finalists means he will receive a nice £5.4m pay-off and is free to take another job almost instantly.

Bild claim that Chelsea is a possible next destination for the 47-year-old if Lampard’s side fail to recover from their recent slump in form. Their loss to Arsenal was their third in five league outings and leaves the club in eighth, out of the Champions League places and seven points adrift of the league leaders, Liverpool.

The German outlet claims Chelsea would be interested in moving for Tuchel if Lampard does leave in the weeks to come. Not only this, they also write that Tuchel would relish the opportunity to take the job and would be keen to work with countrymen Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Antonio Rüdiger.

If Chelsea isn’t his next port of call, Bild stress that he will not take an extended break as he did after his time with Dortmund in 2017.
