This stat sums up how poor Wayne Rooney was against Aston Villa

Wayne's had better nights

Robert Redmond

Wayne Rooney has received quite a bit of criticism for his performance against Aston Villa last night.

The Manchester United captain was playing centre-forward but appeared to have left his first-touch on the beach, and looked sluggish throughout his team’s 1-0 win, adding little to the victory.

Some people on Twitter compared Rooney’s performance to one more fitting to a certain former England ‘striker’.

While Bearded Genius said Rooney’s bad day at the office: “was the workplace equivalent of s**tting in the plant pot, p*ssing in the water cooler and angry-w**king all over the boss’s desk.”

So, essentially, Rooney had a bit of stinker. However, this stat possibly sums up best just how ineffective the United striker was at Villa Park last night.

Rooney only managed one touch in the opposition’s penalty area, and that came in the 90th minute, a worry statistic given Rooney is the club’s undisputed main striker, and, should United mount a realistic title challenge, Rooney will be expected to score over 20 goals.

There were some other worrying statistics for United fans regarding Rooney’s form.
