Vide: This poem about Cork City sums up the pride League of Ireland fans have in their clubs

Great stuff

Robert Redmond

League of Ireland fans are a passionate bunch.

They follow their teams up and down the country, from rainy Friday nights in March, to rainy Friday nights in July, to rainy Friday nights in October.

The facilities aren’t always great, and the football isn’t as glamorous as other European leagues that are televised around the clock, but League of Ireland fans always turn out, and clubs are representatives of their respective communities.

This pride for one’s local club shines through in this video produced by Mairtín de Barra, an Irish, Emmy nominated director. Cork City secretary Darren O’Keeffe’s poem, titled ‘Passion’, speaks about the community orientated Leeside club.

Cork City have experienced financial troubles in the past, but are now owned by a supporters trust, and run on their behalf.

While the poem is about the Turners’ Cross club, fans of other League of Ireland clubs will relate to O’Keefe’s passion and pride in his local club.
