Speechlessly heartbreaking image emerges of surviving Chapecoense players in empty changing room

"Total Desolation"

Sean McMahon

We can’t imagine what these players must be feeling right now.

Tragedy unfolded in Colombia this morning as a plane carrying Brazilian professional football side, Chapecoense, crashed as it approached the Colombian city of Medelin.

Most recent reports state that a sixth survivor has been found. There were a total of 81 people on board.

The team were due to play in final of the Copa Sudamericana, against Medellin team, Atletico Nacional. The Copa Sudamericana is South America’s second most important club competition.

Of course, which is the case with any match, there will always be members of the squad who don’t make the the travelling team.

A picture has recently surfaced on twitter which shows some of the player’s who were not going to be involved in the final in Medellin.

A rough translation of the tweet reads:

“Total desolation in the changing room of Chepecoense. These are the players that did not make the trip. Devastating. What a f**king day.”

The picture shows some of the players not involved in the final, coming to terms with this horrendous situation.

One hopes these players get all the support they need to cope with this tragedy.

In what is a touching tribute, Atletico Nacional, the Colombian side who were set to face Chepecoense in the final, has asked that the Copa Sudamericana, be awarded to Chepecoense.
