Right now the whole world knows the name ‘Jamie Vardy’
The former Halifax Town striker has forever etched that name into football folklore – rising from non-league to topple one of Manchester United’s greatest ever forwards by scoring 11 consecutive goals in the Premier League.
The Englishman has the world at his feet. But when you’re at the top there’s always someone who wants to knock you down a peg or two.
Former Celtic and Nottingham Forest forward Pierre Van Hooijdonk sent a cheeky tweet to Vardy just to let him know that once upon a time he bagged 14 goals in a row (that was for Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Breda in all competitions).
Welcome in the club of 11 @vardy7 .
Still 3 games to go to beat my record including all competitions 😉 #14inarow— Pierre van Hooijdonk (@pierrevh17) November 28, 2015
People on Twitter were quick to remind Van Hooijdonk a few home truths though.
