Thierry Henry wants former Arsenal teammate to join him at Bordeaux

He is set to take his first steps into management.

Thierry Henry's representatives have opened talks with Bordeaux, with the Belgium assistant manager eager to take over from Gus Poyet at the Ligue 1 side. Poyet was suspended by Bordeaux last week, and then sacked, for comments made about the board and the club is hoping to appoint a high-profile name to push him out the door. Henry's interest in the position was made public by ex-manager Arsene Wenger on Monday. "Yes, he wants to do it," Wenger told Corse Matin. "He is intelligent and he has the qualities.

"The existential question that we always ask ourselves is whether we are ready to sacrifice our life for the coaching profession."

Henry is already considering his potential backroom staff should he get the job and he's hoping to bring a former teammate to the dugout at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux. RMC Sport reports that Arsenal's top scorer is keen to make Gilles Grimandi his assistant. Grimandi was already at Highbury when Henry arrived in 1999 and the pair played together for three years before the French defender left for Colorado Rapids. Grimandi is currently employed by the Gunners as a scout but may be tempted by the exciting opportunity to reunite with Henry in France. The decision on Henry is now in the hands of Bordeaux's American owners.
