There were kit issues all around when Liverpool faced off with Crystal Palace

A difficult watch

Darragh Murphy

There was no shortage of talking points when Liverpool travelled to Selhurst Park on Saturday evening.

You had the narrative of Christian Benteke’s first game against his former club since his summer move from the Reds.

You had goals aplenty in a wide open first half.

You had the kit issues.

‘What kit issues?’ you might ask…

These kit issues.

Crystal Palace v Liverpool - Premier League

Fans watching the Premier League clash couldn’t help but notice that the referee of the game, Andre Marriner, and his assistants were sporting a colour scheme that was strikingly similar to the Crystal Palace home strip.

The officials’ purple get-up was quite close to the red and blue combination that we’re used to seeing Palace wear which begs the question ‘Why didn’t they just wear black?’

The other kit issue at play came with Liverpool’s choice to unleash their ‘Toxic & Thunder’ kit for the tie.

The blinding luminous green aesthetic was always going to be a polarising one but there seemed to be far more supporters on the ‘hate it’ side of the divide.
