The top five meetings between Spurs and Chelsea in recent years

There have been some doozies

Darragh Murphy

Goals…

That’s what’s essentially promised when Spurs go head-to-head with Chelsea.

Since April 2012, the London sides have met eight times and, amazingly, they’ve shared 33 goals in the process.

With just one 0-0 draw in the last 11 years, they seem to pull on their goalscoring boots for this fixture in particular and a goalless draw is unlikely when the pair meet on Sunday afternoon.

To mark another potential classic, here are our favourite Spurs v Chelsea matches in recent times.

5 – Chelsea 2 Spurs 2          Stamford Bridge      8/5/2013

Remember when Emmanuel Adebayor was good at football?

This will jog your memory as the big man picked up possession in his own half, confidently strode into Blues territory before curling the ball beyond Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal to draw Spurs level after an Oscar opener.

Ramires restored normal order by pushing Chelsea in front before half time but, just as all three points looked sewn up, Gylfi Sigurdsson popped up in the box to make it 2-2.

4 – Spurs 2 Chelsea 4          White Hart Lane     20/10/2012

Gary Cahill volleyed his side into the lead when Roberto di Matteo took Chelsea to White Hart Lane in one of his final games as Blues boss.

William Gallas, as he usually does, scored against his former side before Jermain Defoe got his typical slick finish.

But Juan Mata scored a beautiful brace to put the Blues in front and a 90th minute tap-in from Daniel Sturridge made sure of the victory.

3 – Chelsea 3 Spurs 3           Stamford Bridge     11/3/2007

It’s not just Premier League meetings that see these sides burn barns to the ground, they also love a good FA Cup tie.

Their quarter-final clash in 2007 had everything – nine yellow cards, a hilarious own goal, typically clinical Frank Lampard finishing and some lad named Hossam Ghaly.

With four minutes remaining on the clock, a replay was forced by a wonderful volleyed finish from Salomon Kalou.

2 – Spurs 4 Chelsea 4          White Hart Lane     19/3/2008

Avram Grant indahouse, y’all!

Back when the Blues’ greatest ever manager was creeping everyone out in the Premier League, Chelsea and Spurs went blow-for-blow in an absolute classic.

Drogba, boom. Woodgate, pow. Essien, smash. Joe Cole, bam. Berbatov, bash. Huddlestone, wham. Cole, again. Keane, wahey.

That’s bloody football for you!

1 – Spurs 5  Chelsea 3          White Hart Lane     1/1/2015

Who could forget the New Years Day goalfest when Harry Kane proved that he wasn’t just a fantasy football flash in the pan but a legitimate top-level striker?

Diego Costa, the scoundrel, opened the scoring and the scene was set for Chelsea to go full Mourinho, shutting up shop and seeing out the festive period with another 1-0 victory to their name.

Then Harry Kane HarryKaned his way all over Thibaut Courtois as he set up an incredible 15-minute spell, with Spurs scoring three to go in at the break two goals to the good.

Kane continued his shenanigans after the break as he scored his second and Spurs’ fourth before the sides traded goals in the final 12 minutes but Mauricio Pochettino had already worked his magic.
