The tickets for Ireland’s friendly against England are very, very pricey

Most expensive Irish friendly ever?

Robert Redmond

A strange incident happened yesterday at the Chinese Grand Prix.

A man ran onto the track, as Formula 1 cars were whizzing past, climbed the track wall, made his way to the Ferrari pit and reportedly said: ‘I want a car. I have got a ticket’, before getting arrested. His actions were reckless, and no price of admission should qualify one to drive a F1 car.

But, if someone was to do something similar at the Ireland v England friendly at the Aviva Stadium on June 7, then it’d probably be with just cause considering the cost of the remaining tickets.

For these prices customers should probably be entitled to play the game or a place on the bench.

The remaining tickets on general sale will cost you €70 or €90. That’s the best part of €100, for a game kicking off at Sunday lunchtime, which is an end of season friendly, that will act as a warm-up for a crucial qualifier, when ticket’s will be less expensive.

For Ireland’s most important game in years, against Scotland six days later, the same tickets cost €50 and €70.

So, by the logic of ticket prices, the England game is more important than the Euro 2016 qualifier? Really?

Republic of Ireland v Armenia - EURO 2012 QualifierThe tickets for both of Ireland’s June games will go on general sale in mid-May, after supporters clubs, leagues, affiliated clubs, season ticket holders and former block bookers get first preference. While children’s ticket will cost €20, in each section bar the premium seats, which will cost you €120. Family and student tickets are reportedly already sold-out.

The association attempted to alleviate poor attendances at international games by offering bundle packages, such as season tickets and packages covering three or two games.

There’s nothing like €90 tickets for friendly games to boost attendances.
