This is madness.
England’s performance against Iceland in the last-16 of Euro 2016 will go down as one of the worst in the country’s history. The nation that invented football lost 2-1 to the smallest nation to ever qualify for the European Championships.
Iceland were full value for their win, and comfortably dealt with what passed for an attacking performance from England. But Roy Hodgson’s side were dreadful.
No player emerged with any credit, and few fans would shed any tears if the players were to follow Hodgson’s lead and resign.
The Times gave each player a zero mark out of 10, and while that may be a bit disrespectful to Iceland – as it downplays their part in the result – it’s nothing compared to The Sun’s take on the game.
Is this a bit disrespectful to Iceland? https://t.co/HkFmV0DdDp

The British tabloid newspaper awarded Wayne Rooney eight out of 10. That’s right, EIGHT out of TEN!
The England captain scored the opening goal of the night from the penalty spot, but was awful from that point onwards. Rooney over-hit passes, slowed down play and his first touch was so poor it was as through his foot had been replaced with a cinder block.
The Sun also awarded Harry Kane seven out of 10, Chris Smalling seven out of 10 and Marcus Rashford, who showed more in his brief cameo than the other English forwards combined, a mere five.
The average rating for England’s starting XI was 6.5, the same as Iceland.
Incredible.
