Watch a rain-drenched pitch wreak havoc with Texas derby in MLS

Play away, we say

Simon Lloyd

Forget what you heard about Tuesday nights in Stoke; its Thursday nights in Dallas that are the true stuff of nightmares.

FC Dallas hosted the Owen Coyle-less Houston Dynamo in a Texas derby this week, but after just four minutes the match had to be delayed due to heavy rain.

‘A bit of rain never hurt anyone,’ we hear you cry. Maybe not, but when you see the footage from the game, you’ll probably understand why the game was postponed.

Seriously, what is a footballer supposed to do in a situation like this?

With the ball hardly running across the rain-drenched surface, we can’t help but be reminded of Sunday league football in the depths of an Irish winter.

Thankfully for those that had bothered turning up for the match, the game did go ahead later on in the evening with the teams sharing a 1-1 draw at Toyota Stadium.

Fair play to the grounds staff.
