The PSG players are in line for some juicy bonuses if they dump Chelsea out of Europe tonight

This is one hell of an incentive

The PSG players are hardly stuck for a bob but still

Usually the only time you hear about footballers getting extra bonuses is during World Cups, and it usually ends badly or involves a plane load of cash being flown out to stop the players from walking out of the tournament.

At club level they rarely, if ever, come to light but somehow word of the bonuses on the table for PSG if they knock Chelsea out of the Champions League have come to light.

Le Parisien have reported that every PSG player will get a cool €250,000 if they can dump Chelsea out tonight, which even for mega-rich footballers is a nice little boost to the pay packet.

It is also reported they will also pocket €1m each if they win the final on June 6. Of course, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is different and he will get €1.5m if they lift the trophy in Berlin.

Jose Mourino was not too impressed with the idea.

“You know, for a long time, I don’t have bonuses. I just have bonuses to win competitions. So I forgot that feeling. The last time was at Porto. Win bonuses for matches or win bonuses to get through some rounds … I never had a bonus [like that] again and I don’t think we should. The club pay us a very good salary to do our job the best we can.”

“If we take the club into quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals but we don’t win the competition, we are doing a very good job for the club financially but I don’t think we should get extra money if we don’t win the last prize. Every player at the high level has enough money in salaries and I think everyone plays to win.”

Of course, last year they were on a reported €450,000 a man to knock Chelsea out at the quarter-final stage and that didn’t matter as Chelsea went through. We’ll see if it makes a difference this time around.
