Ruud van Nistelrooy takes charge of his first Premier League game

Manchester United’s interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy impressed midweek when he led his team to a 5-2 victory over Leicester in the Carabao Cup but Sunday’s game will be a big test for the former striker.

Ruben Amorim is not expected to take charge of the Reds until later this month and Van Nistelrooy could enjoy four games at the helm.

Though the bulk of the squad is expected to remain the same as it was midweek given United’s injury woes, particularly in defence, Altay Bayindir will make way for Andre Onana while Noussair Mazraoui and Rasmus Hojlund are expected to come in for Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee.

Van Nistelrooy was full of praise for Casemiro who got on the scoresheet twice midweek and also commended Diogo Dalot’s mentality post match. He is certainly enjoying taking charge of this group of players for the time being, will that continue on Sunday?

Meanwhile, Chelsea head into this game with few injury worries. Jadon Sancho will be ineligible to play against his parent club.

They are looking to bounce back from crashing out of the Carabao Cup after that defeat to Newcastle.

Maresco made 11 changes midweek so we can expect a very different team facing United compared to the one that played midweek.

Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill are all expected to be in the starting XI.

Elsewhere, Spurs take on Aston Villa.
