It’s back!

The new Premier League season officially got underway last night, with Manchester United winning 1-0 at home to Fulham thanks to a late strike from substitute Joshua Zirkzee on his debut.

Erik Ten Hag will be happy to get his third season as United boss underway with a win, and many of his fellow Premier League managers will be hoping for a similar result this weekend.

Arne Slot officially kicks off his succession to Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager at midday today, as his side travel down south to play newly-promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Liverpool had a strong pre-season campaign, not losing a single of their five matches, and fans will be hoping that the likes of Darwin Nunez, Mohammed Salah and Luis Diaz will provide goals in their early kick-off.

There are four 3pm kick-offs to look forward to, as last season’s runner-ups Arsenal play host to Gary O’Neill’s Wolves at Emirates stadium.

Elsewhere, Everton welcome Brighton & Hove Albion at Goodison Park, a stadium they will leave at the end of this season in order to move into their new 52,000 seater ground on Bramley-Moore Dock.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United will be hoping to break back into the Champions League positions this season. Their campaign starts at home to Southampton.

And Nottingham Forest welcome a Brentford side who will have to source goals from elsewhere after star striker Dominic Solanke completed his big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Then, at 5:30pm, Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham United – who have been very busy in the summer transfer window – will take on Unai Emery’s Aston Villa at London stadium.

Villa will compete in the Champions League this season for the first time since 1982, while Hammers fans will be hoping the new strength in depth in their side might see them finish in the top four for the first time ever.
