He’s the man Liverpool fans are looking towards to spearhead a top-four challenge, and Graeme Souness reckons Christian Benteke has the potential to dominate Premier League defences
The Belgium striker is Brendan Rodgers’ Â biggest summer signing and is expected to start against Stoke this afternoon, and Reds’ legend Souness is expecting big things from Benteke, claiming he could emulate the fear factor former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba put into defenders.
‘Benteke has to have a great campaign. Single-handedly, he could decide what kind of season Liverpool have,’ Souness writes in his Sunday Times column.
There are times when he is unplayable. He is extremely athletic. He has a wonderful spring. He is quick. He is a good header of the ball, and is capable of scoring all types of goals.
He is the nearest thing there has been to Didier Drogba and you saw how influential Drogba was to everything that else achieved. Drogba became the centre-forward that centre-halves did not want to play against. He could outjump you. He could outmuscle you. He could outsprint you.
Benteke has the potential to be similar. Whether he has the same mental attitude, we will see.
