Ireland continue their descent of the FIFA world rankings in the latest update, released today
The Boys in Green have moved down to 67th place from the previous position of 64th. Unfortunately, the update means that Ireland are no longer between two Congos on the list. The side were sandwiched between both Democratic Republic and classic versions of the sub-Saharan African nation in the last update a month ago.
On the plus side, we’ve overtaken both Burkina Faso and Togo who now sit in 68th and 74th respectively… so there’s that.
Elsewehere, Euro 2016 qualifying group rivals Scotland have also taken a dip in the rankings. The Scots have fallen two places to 38. Northern Ireland have dropped four places to 51 while England move down two spaces to 15. However, Wales have managed to cling on to their 34th spot.
Cote d’Ivoire are the big movers following their historic win at the Africa Cup of Nations. Les Éléphants climb eight places to 20th.
Unsurprisingly, given the lack of international action last month, there has been little movement in the top 10. Germany, Argentina and Colombia remaining the top three footballing nations in the world.
