Teams will be allowed a fourth substitute in extra-time of the FA Cup’s latter stages next season.
From the quarter-final stage, teams will be able introduce an extra player if the game goes into extra-time, a move that could potentially have a significant effect on games.
The extra substitution could influence a manager’s tactics, or could be used to aid an injured player.
Last season, Jesse Lingard came off the bench to win the FA Cup final for Manchester United in extra-time against Crystal Palace.
The extra substitute in extra-time was used at the Copa America earlier this summer, after the International Football Association Board, who set football’s rules, changed the rule earlier this year.
A fourth substitute will be allowed in extra-time will also be used at the Rio Olympics, and the Club World Cup later this year.
