Sportsdesks up and down the UK and Ireland were undoubtedly a horrible place to be after Mario Balotelli’s late, late winner for Liverpool last night.
Late goals so close to deadline will always create plenty of cursing, especially when they’re scored by a man as divisive as Balotelli.
In an ironic twist, Liverpool wore the logo of blindness charity “Seeing is Believing” on their shirts, and it certainly had to be the case when Balotelli tapped in their late winner against Spurs last night.
Despite having such a short amount of time to work with, the back pages of today’s UK papers were dominated by Liverpool’s match winner.
The battle of the headlines was undoubtedly won by the Liverpool Echo.

The Star and The Mirror both went with the classic “Super Mario” line, a nickname he was much more used to during his time as a Man City player.
While The Sun went for a far more creative line, including Harry Kane in a nod to a classic romantic comedy, being so close to Valentine’s Day and all…
The Mail went for some alliteration in their headline, after Mario’s usual non-celebration.
While things were much more understated, as you’d expect, in the broadsheets.
