No, it wasn’t PSG.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev announced this week that another club had offered more money for the French striker, but he opted to sign for the Red Devils instead.

Vasilyev was reluctant to mention the name of the club that outbid Manchester United for the 19-year-old, but M.E.N. Sport have revealed it was their Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The London club was keen to agree a deal for Martial before deadline day, with the teenager remaining in France for another year, as Manchester Evening News reports.

However, Martial famously changed his mind about staying in France when United came a knockin’, as Vasilyev explained.

“But the boy wanted to go to Manchester, it was his dream. And we let him go with the bonus of €30m. Had it not been for so much money, he’d have stayed.”

Martial, whose £36m fee could rise up to £58m, decided to snub Chelsea to join United and has been in good form since making the move to England. The French youngster has bagged four goals in six games and has played a huge role in propelling United to the top two of the Premier League.
