Barcelona’s fortress might be in for a name change, just like Real Madrid
The Camp Nou stadium may incorporate Qatar Airways into its name as part of a sponsorship deal with the airline.
The company’s chief executive officer Akbar al-Baker confirmed the news about the historic stadium.
Everything is a possibility for our company, we’re open to surprises and one of these could be connected to the name of Camp Nou. Qatar Airways and Barcelona have the same values. It is possible that our name is added to Camp Nou.
The Catalans’ current contract with the airline, which is worth £25million a year, is set to expire in 2016. However, Barcelona’s vice-president Javier Faus hinted that the club is close to brokering a new deal with Qatar Airways.
We need a new sponsor, we have zero problems with Qatar, so it will be a quick decision.
If they do rekindle their partnership, an alteration to the Camp Nou’s name might be an inevitability.
This follows the news that the Bernabéu could be renamed the Abu Dhabi Bernabéu. Real Madrid’s president Florentino Pérez recently said that this was a possibility.
