Arsenal fans are getting their meltdowns in early this season.
Normally, a second-place finish followed by a £30m splurge on a new midfielder would be considered solid preparation for a Premier League campaign.
But this is no normal season.
Competitors have strengthened even more than the Gunners – many in the managerial department – and the stakes are higher.
Even before the opening game of the season, questions were asked of Arsene Wenger’s preparations, both defensive and attacking, and some began to fear a sub-fourth place finish for the first time since the Frenchman took over.
While Arsenal drop out of the top 4 and the Wenger era ends in total rancour. This season's going to be unbearable.

Some urged caution, warning fans to wait until after the home meeting with a Liverpool team who have spent big on the likes of Sadio Mane and Gini Wijnaldum. That would be the barometer, they thought.
Four Liverpool goals (and three for Arsenal) later, and the knives were out – and that was even before Petr Cech totalled his car on his way out of the ground.
So it was time for that familiar sight – the reaction of supporters on Arsenal Fan TV.
Would they be calm and balanced and accept it’s just game one of a 38-game season? We’ll let you be the judge.
It was an all too familiar sight for some
There might not have been a huge amount of optimism before the game, but some decided the performance was somehow worse than expected.
There’s one man bearing the brunt of the criticism, and it’s not debutant Rob Holding
Wenger might have taken the club to new heights, but is his time up?
Even Claude was back with a trademark rant
If this is what it’s like after week one, we can only imagine what the interviews will be like if things start to get really bad.
