‘This finder’s fee is a mockery’

A taxi driver who drove over 75 miles to return Manuel Neuer’s wallet to the Bayern Munich goalkeeper has been left disappointed with the reward he received.

Hazir S. drove the long distance to return the wallet, which had around £680 (€800) inside, to the goalkeeper’s manager at Tegernsee, Bavaria and left his contact details there too.

Hazir was left unhappy with Neuer’s token of gratitude.

As a reward for his honest gesture, Neuer sent Hazir one of his goalkeeper’s shirts two weeks after the wallet had been returned to say thank you. But Hazir was left less than impressed with the reward, which he called “a mockery.”

Speaking to Sky Germany he said: “This finder’s fee is a mockery. I have four children. I can’t do anything with the jersey.”

The taxi driver had reportedly drove Neuer and a friend from Odeonsplatz in Munich to an apartment complex in the Lehel district, with the ‘keeper only realising he had left his wallet in the car the next day.

Neuer is rumoured to have spent ‘£340’ (€400) to return it. German law dictates that anyone returning property worth £425 (€500) is entitled to five per cent of the value, and an additional three per cent for property worth anything over that, meaning that Hazir was owed only £29 (€34) for returning the wallet.

Bayern have been splashing the cash this summer

Bayern have been spending their own money of late after they recently confirmed the arrival of defender Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus in a £68m deal this week.

De Ligt joins after he turned down interest from other suitors and comes in shortly after legendary striker Robert Lewandowski completed his move to Barcelona after signalling his intentions to leave the Bundesliga champions this summer.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side have also signed Sadio Mané, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui in a busy summer at the Allianz Arena.
