“Suspect package” found in Toulouse square ahead of Wales vs. Russia

Kevin Beirne

A suspect package has been found in the centre of the French city of Toulouse on Sunday night.

The news comes just over 24 hours before Wales are due to kick off against Russia in their final Group B game of Euro 2016 at the Stadium Municipal in Toulouse on Monday night.

Streets around the city’s Place du Capitole have been closed as local police investigate, with one local informing us that a bag had been left unattended in the area.

The incident comes just four days after match-goers were denied entrance to the Grand Stade Lille Métropole in Lille ahead of Russia’s 2-1 defeat to Slovakia.

Officials told attendees that they could not enter the stadium due to a “bomb scare” but were permitted to enter the stadium after the situation had been dealt with shortly after.

Wales come into Monday night’s game knowing a win would secure their place in the second round of a major tournament for the first time since the 1958 World Cup, where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Brazil after the legendary Pele scored the only goal of the game.
