Survey of footballers reveals their favourite pundit, and it ain’t Robbie Savage

Four Four Two spoke to 123 pros and one man was top of the analysis tree

Not great news for BT Sports’ man

The latest issue of Four Four Two has a very interesting survey conducted with professional footballers. Polling 123 pros in the Premier League, the Football League and in Scotland, they covered a wide range of topics.

They have posted one aspect of the result, the pundit players love the most, online and it is a clear win for Sky.

Gary Neville was voted the favourite by 70 per cent of respondents, while Jamie Carragher was second. “Neville and Carragher are so good, I enjoy watching them more than the game,” one current Championship player is quoted as saying.

It wasn’t such good news for Robbie Savage, who was, well, savaged by the men he comments on.

“Savage shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a TV,” according to a current SPL player, while a League 2 player is quoted as saying: “Players don’t respect Savage, what has he achieved? At least Neville and Alan Shearer can talk with real authority”.

Perhaps the most damning line, though, came from another League 2 player, who summed it up like this: “I played with Sav. Nice lad, but he’s not up to the job.”

The poll also delved into what the pros make of spitting, racism and gay footballers and full details can be found in the April issue of the magazine.
