“He’s not the Messiah; he’s a very naughty boy.”
Unfortunately, Louis van Gaal seems to have a similar problem to the luckless, eponymous hero of the ‘Life of Brian; as no-one can see his greatness.
Delusions of grandeur are not unknown for the Dutchman, who last night entertained reporters at the Manchester United end of season awards ceremony.
David de Gea picked up the club’s senior gong for the third year in a row, while Marcus Rashford and Chris Smalling were also on the receiving end of a big hunk of metal.
Manchester United's POTY is their goalkeeper for the third season running. The absolute state of that.

The club is still in the hunt for Champions League football, while there is the small matter of an FA Cup final with Crystal Palace also to prepare for over the coming weeks.
There has long been speculation that he will be replaced this summer, but last night Van Gaal informed journalists that he would be stunned if the club got rid of him, considering the sterling job he is doing under difficult circumstances.
“I’m a coach, a manager who would rather have some authority but every day the players can read it, what do you think about my authority as well? What do you think about the way they want to follow my advice when the coach is shown like a nobody?
“But I am not like that. I am very arrogant. I am one of the best managers in the world.
“When the media is writing for six months I am sacked already… I can cope with that. It is not new for me. For my players, it is not so easy.”
The former Bayern Munich boss then went on to blame the media for the club’s poor season, explaining that the expectation around the club, having spent just shy of £250million, is too high.
“I am happy to give the fans a final. Expectations are too high. We are in a period of transition. It is not so easy. We have to meet the expectations of the biggest club in the world.”
Van Gaal may like to think he is the best manager in the world, but sadly, his comments have not gone down well.
