Superstitious Liverpool fans should be fearful of this omen ahead of Sunday’s game with Stoke

Not again

Kevin McGillicuddy

Very superstitious, writing’s on the wall.

Brendan Rodgers should avoid all cracks on footpaths, don’t let any black cats cross his path, and try not to break any mirrors with that toothy grin of his ahead of the opening day of the new season.

Why?

Because it seems that the gods, or at least the Premier League gods, have already cast the dye on how their game with Stoke is going to pan out this Sunday.

You may recall that Liverpool got whipped 6-1 on the final day of the season by Stoke as their disastrous campaign ended with one of the club’s worst ever defeats.

And now the man in black that day, referee Anthony Taylor, has been given his opening game assignment which just happens to be back at the Britannia for the game against the same teams this weekend.

Liverpool fans, fearful of omens and all that craic, should probably be concerned as any time Taylor is in charge of Reds’ games, the result doesn’t seem to turn out so well.

He took charge of the 4-1 thrashing at Arsenal and 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea last term, as well as the  1-0 win at Burnley and 0-0 derby stalemate with Everton at Goodison Park.
