Coming to Sunderland this Jan… Jan.

Sunderland have completed the signing of Bayern Munich defender Jan Kirchhoff in a deal that is thought to be around £750,000.

The 25-year-old, 6’5” centre-back has put pen-to-paper on an eighteen-month contract which will see him remain at the Stadium of Light until June 2017.

Despite his time at Bayern being marred with injury problems, there was plenty of interest in Kirchhoff in the transfer market. The defender revealed to German publication Kicker that three Bundesliga sides, Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart and FC Augsburg, were in for him, but he opted to sign for the Black Cats instead.

“I had several options There were requests from the Bundesliga, but I didn’t really consider them or to stay at Bayern.

“I’m looking forward to playing in England and the new challenge.”
