Sunday Morning League in Derry called off… because of Conor McGregor

Conan Doherty

Local football is alive and well in Derry.

December is playing havoc with the sporting calendars again but not because of holidays and not because of the weather. Because of Conor bloody McGregor.

The Derry & District Sunday morning football schedule was postponed this weekend because of another sport taking place at 6am on the same morning. The local soccer games usually kick off at 11.30am so it just wasn’t feasible.

Christmas parties were also cited as a reason with teams requesting en masse for a cancellation of their fixtures.

But the organisers’ hands were tied and were forced to send the text message out to local sports editors to put the note in the papers that there would be no games on Sunday.
