Stoke claim that fellow Premier League club’s bid for Jonathan Walters is an “insult”

They have been told they will need to pay a lot more

Stoke City have angrily rejected a Burnley six-figure bid for Jonathan Walters.

Reports claimed on Tuesday that Jonathan Walters was subject to a €3 million bid from Burnley, but Stoke have since rejected these claims and claimed that the offer was only a six-figure fee which they immediately turned away.

Walters began his Stoke career in 2010 and had been a mainstay on the Potters’ teamsheet in the Premier League for most of his career at The Brittania.

Last year, however, starts became fewer and further between for the Irish international as he only started 13 Premier League games for Mark Hughes’ side.

Walters has only 12 months left on his contract at Stoke City and has been linked with a move away from The Potters.

Dyche is said to be keen on Walters and is expected to come back with a higher bid for Walters who has been at Stoke since 2010.

Stoke claimed that the offer was nowhere near such a figure and the actual amount was an “insult to themselves and to Walters” according to The Sentinel.

A move to the Lancashire side would be a boost to Ireland’s hopes of qualifying for next summer’s World Cup finals with the 33-year-old always keen to be starting games in order to keep his fitness up.

Burnley have a strong Irish connection in their ranks and Walters would be linking up with Robbie Brady, Jeff Hendrick, Kevin Long and Stephen Ward if he joined The Clarets.

Last week Burnley were linked with a move for James McCarthy, who is expected to leave Everton, and now they have targeted Walters

Dyche guided Burnley to a 16th place Premier League finish last season.
