Steven Gerrard opens up on the circumstances surrounding infamous slip

Gerrard came close to missing the game

Some new details have emerged which might excuse Steven Gerrard for the most embarrassing moment of his career.

In April 2014, Gerrard became a meme after slipping and allowing Demba Ba through on goal in Liverpool’s title decider against Chelsea and he is still the subject of plenty of mockery among rival fans for losing his footing.

Sleepless nights likely followed after the Reds’ most reliable player came up with the error which essentially cost Liverpool their first ever Premier League title.

But in a new interview with the Daily Mail about his biopic, Make Us Dream, Gerrard has revealed that he was far from fully fit for the game at Anfield.

The article states that Gerrard was suffering with a back injury ahead of the match and required an epidural injection to manage the pain, meaning he would have been within his rights to miss the game.

“Don’t think that is an excuse,” Gerrard said. “What happened was just pure bad luck but, when you do a book or film, especially with people who have won Oscars and made films such as Amy (the biopic of the late Amy Winehouse) and Senna, you must be as honest and open as you can.”
