“I’m obsessed with being successful as the Rangers manager. I could lose every Old Firm game and still win the league.”
He’s not finished in the transfer market
Steven Gerrard has had a busy summer as Rangers manager, bringing the likes of Scott Arfield, Jon Flanagan and Kyle Lafferty to Ibrox as he looks to mount a title challenge in his first year as a first team coach.
But he’s not finished yet. After newly signed winger Jamie Murphy suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Gerrard is on the hunt for a replacement winger and is reportedly keen to sign Rolando Aarons from Newcastle.
Hull City and AEK Athens are also interested in signing the out of favour winger.
Aarons, 22, spent last season on loan at Serie A side Hellas Verona, and will almost certainly be sent out on loan again given the competition for game time at St James’ Park.
Gerrard is keen to strengthen his squad to give Rangers the best chance of bringing the league title back to Ibrox, but insists they can win the league even if they lose all four Old Firm derbies to Celtic.
Gerrard said: “I haven’t even thought about the Old Firm game – I’m not obsessed with Celtic.
