It’s getting closer
Steven Gerrard’s long goodbye from Liverpool began at almost the moment back in January when he announced that this season would be his last at Anfield.
He has since spoken about how he may have been persuaded to stay had the club been quicker to offer him a new contract.
But speaking at a former players gala dinner on Monday night Gerrard elaborated on his decision to leave, stating that a conversation with Brendan Rodgers about his future role in the team made up his mind to join LA Galaxy.
‘I think the signs this year were that I’m going to become a squad player, play less,’ Gerrard said. ‘I’m going to come on as a sub and the buzz changes.
‘For me, I go to work on a Monday morning and I look forward to Saturday, to prepare to go to battle with some wonderful people – with good mates – and that’s my buzz. My preparation starts on a Monday morning.
‘When a manager gets you into the office, and says that’s going to change and it’s going to become more limited – that’s when you make your decision.’
