Steven Gerrard believes that the only thing missing from the current Liverpool side is experience.

Liverpool have started their season well an are expected to push Manchester City all the way for this season’s Premier League title.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live about his old club, Gerrard said:

“I think the only thing they haven’t got going for them is that experience.

“Obviously someone who went very close myself I think we lacked that experience as well.”

‘Best squad’

The former Liverpool captain also admitted that the teams he played in often lacked quality in certain positions, but believes the current Liverpool side does not have a weakness.

“But I always felt when we were trying to win it I always felt like we were short in certain positions,” Gerrard said.

“I’m looking now and I can’t really find any weaknesses when they’re at full strength if they keep everyone fit and healthy.

“I think this is a lot stronger than the team I played in. It’s been Liverpool ’s best squad for a very long time.”

Gerrard won multiple trophies with Liverpool during his playing career, including the Champions League, but never managed to win the Premier League despite coming close on two occasions.

Liverpool came close in 2013/14 when Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge spearheaded their attack alongside Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho, but it was a Gerrard mistake vs Chelsea which ultimately saw the title slip away.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have given the club their best chance of winning their first Premier League title this season, improving in key areas and spending big in the summer.

New goalkeeper Alisson was crucial in securing a point on Saturday, as was Daniel Sturridge, who scored a spectacular equaliser after coming off the bench.
