And, so, they’ve began 2015 like they ended last year.
Dundalk head into next week’s League of Ireland opener with another piece of silverware in the cabinet after Stephen Kenny guided the club to a third trophy in his tenure after a 2-1 victory over St. Patrick’s Athletic.
The Oriel Park men clinched league and League Cup honours in 2014 and they were celebrating at home again today with the President’s Cup.
But they had to come from behind to see off FAI Cup champions, St. Pat’s, who threatened to ambush Dundalk, playing on home turf.
Chris Forrester had the Dubliners in front just after the half hour mark but Kenny’s men responded in kind when Daryl Horgan unleashed a venomous strike that brought the crowd to their feet and the game level at one apiece.
And, before the break, that man again, Richie Towell, struck to fire Dundalk ahead after Ronan Finn had prodded to produce his second assist of the afternoon.
And the league champs hung on in the second period to see out another win and yet another title.
They welcome Longford to Oriel Park on Friday night where they will begin the defence of their league.
But sure this was a half decent start anyway.
FULL-TIME! 2-1 Dundalk! President's Cup winners 2015!!
