St Johnstone teammates fight each other and stadium tannoy deals with it hilariously

Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting

Hamilton Academical claimed a 1-0 victory over St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership this weekend but Alexandre D’Acol’s late winner was not the most dramatic aspect of the contest.

All anybody could talk about after the final whistle was the bizarre clash of away players on the stroke of half-time.

Both Daniel Swanson and Richard Foster saw red for their skirmish close to the halfway line, which required a number of St Johnstone staff members to intervene and stop the men from doing too much damage to one another.

The above footage shows the pair being dragged off the pitch but reports from the game suggest that Swanson appeared to kick Foster following a head-to-head.

The players had exchanged heated words before things got physical and the referee dismissed them both.

In a humorous twist to the tale, the New Douglas Park PA system played the songs ‘Kung Fu Fighting’ and ‘Eye of the Tiger’ as both sets of players returned to the pitch after the break, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

An investigation is underway, while St Johnstone have suspended both players with manager Tommy Wright insisting that he would come down hard on them.

“We will do an investigation and the players know that I’m not going to show them any sympathy,” he said.

“If what’s alleged to have happened has happened, we will come down on them as hard as we can legally.” He added:

“This will be dealt with in the strongest possible way that we can.

“There was frustration from us in first half at not playing well and Danny and Richard had words before that. I can sort that out in the dressing room but I didn’t get a chance to do that.

“I’ve never seen anything like this except on TV. In my day someone hit you in the dressing room and it stayed there.”

Ah, halcyon days…
