Spurs score after 11 seconds against Man United

Robert Redmond

Wow.

Tottenham Hotspur got off to the perfect start against Manchester United on Wednesday night. Spurs got the match underway at Wembley stadium, the ball came back to Jan Vertonghen, who launched it long towards Harry Kane. The England striker nodded it down, it landed in the path of Dele Alli, his shot was blocked, and ball broke to Christian Eriksen.

From 12 yards out, and after just 11 seconds, the Danish midfielder gave Spurs the lead.

Here’s how the goal happened.

However, former referee Graham Poll said on BT Sport that the goal should not have been allowed, because Kane was standing in United’s half when the match began.

So, by the letter of the law, the goal should not have stood, according to the former ref.

Some United fans weren’t happy that the officials at Wembley did not spot Kane standing in the opposition half.
